AbstractUsing telehealth technology to deliver parent training in evidence‐based intervention has been suggested to increase the accessibility of such interventions and improve skill acquisition and generalization. Within behavior analysis, global restrictions in response to the COVID‐19 pandemic highlighted the need for the development of telehealth supports for families. The current research examined the online delivery of a parent‐mediated implementation of the Preschool Life Skills program (PLS). Four parents completed the parent PLS program with their typically developing children (aged 3–5 years) via weekly videoconferencing sessions. A multiple‐probe experimental design was employed to assess the effect of the intervention on children's preschool life skills and challenging behavior. Parental embedding of PLS strategies during daily activities was also evaluated. The results demonstrated increases in children's preschool life skills, decreases in challenging behavior, and evidence of parent acquisition and use of PLS strategies.

AbstractIn applied behavior analysis, parents or other caregivers are often trained to implement an intervention after the intervention has been demonstrated effective when implemented by professionals. However, training novice staff members to conduct specific behavioral interventions has received less attention. This is particularly true in the context of training staff to implement interventions to treat food refusal. In the current study, we implemented three levels of training to evaluate the level of intensity required to train staff members (i.e., behavior technicians, Registered Behavior Technicians®, and Board‐Certified Behavior Analysts®) to implement a feeding protocol with a role play partner. Only one participant met the mastery criteria following the first training phase, which included written instructions and video modeling. Following 72 h of exposure to the instructional materials, we provided participants an opportunity to ask clarifying questions about the procedure (second training phase). Only one participant met mastery in this phase. Three other participants required in vivo feedback and modeling (third training phase) to master the protocol. We discuss clinical implications and future research directions.

AbstractThe current study explored the influence of different levels of speaker coherence on rule following and speaker preference. In Experiment 1, rules provided by three different speakers were either 100% accurate, 0% accurate, or 50% accurate/inaccurate. Experiment 2 was similar to Experiment 1 except that the speaker's coherence was adjusted to 80% accurate, 20% accurate, and 50% accurate/inaccurate, respectively. Overall, participants tended to follow coherent speaker rules and avoid following incoherent speaker rules during training and testing phases. The results also indicated that following and not following rules provided by speakers may be generalizable to novel stimuli and maintained in the absence of differential reinforcement (i.e., in experimental test phases). Additionally, in a preference test, participants tended to prefer coherent over incoherent and partially coherent speakers. Furthermore, participants tended to prefer the relatively more incoherent speaker (i.e., 0% or 20% accurate) over the 50% accurate coherent speaker in both experiments. Finally, a comparison of the results of both experiments indicated that different levels of relational coherence affected the variability of rule‐following and speaker preference behaviors. These findings are discussed in the context of the complexities that appear to be involved in rule‐following behaviors and speaker preference.

The purpose of this study is to analyze domestic research trends related to infants and toddlers with disabilities and at risk of disabilities, and to explore the research contents of previous studies and suggest future directions for research on infants and toddlers with disabilities and at risk of disabilities based on the results. To this end, a total of 108 papers published in domestic academic journals from 2019 to 2023 were selected and analyzed, and the overall research trends and research contents of previous studies were specifically examined. As a result of the study, the research on infants and toddlers with disabilities and at risk of disabilities was conducted the most in 2022 and has been conducted steadily until recently. Second, the research topic was found to be the most research on factors for support measures for infants and toddlers with disabilities and at risk of disabilities. Third, the research subjects were mostly studies targeting school staff, and among them, studies targeting teachers were the main focus. Fourth, the research method was literature research, followed by quantitative research and qualitative research. In order to explore the research contents of previous studies, quantitative and qualitative research were first examined. In survey research, teacher factor research was conducted the most, in experimental research, intervention program factor research was conducted more, and in comparative research, parent factor research was conducted more. In qualitative research, interview research, research content, support measure factors were conducted the most. As a result of measuring previous research by dividing it into research factors, research subjects, and research methods by year, research on support measure factors was conducted the most in 2020, and research was conducted at a consistently high frequency until 2023. Research subjects on teachers and staff increased by year, and in terms of research methods, the frequency of qualitative research was gradually increasing. Based on these research results, the direction of future research on infants and toddlers with disabilities and at risk of disabilities was discussed.

AbstractThe functional analysis of complex verbal behavior requires an evaluation of topographically similar responses under multiple sources of control. Traditional graphical displays of behavior were designed to show the manipulation of isolated controlling variables and may not be amenable to displaying the multidimensional properties of complex behavior. Researchers have recently demonstrated the use of multiaxial radar charts for comparing the functional performance of biological systems. Here we extend the use of multidimensional analyses to compare the relative performance distributions of verbal behavior across four potential controlling variables. First, we provide a conceptual analysis of intraverbal and extraverbal control as continua along which stimuli range from formal to thematic and explain how the intersection of these stimulus fields creates a radar chart for multidimensional analysis. Then we demonstrate how data may be gathered through a verbal operant experimental analysis. We employed repeated measures to map the conditioning history of a child with autism spectrum disorder across 2 years of early intensive behavioral intervention and analyzed the results using shape descriptors for quantitative comparisons. We also compared the polygonal language profiles of children with autism against that of a neurotypical peer. Extending a multidimensional analysis to the field of verbal behavior provides the basis for a language growth chart that researchers and clinicians can use to monitor language acquisition over time. We discuss the use of radar charts as a framework for understanding the interdependence of verbal operants and suggest their use for complex analyses of complex verbal behavior.
