Abstract As the primary certification organization in behavior analysis, the BACB has published nine ethics-based documents and codes since its inception in 1998. The ethics standards in these publications have served as the basis of ethics education and disciplinary enforcement in applied behavior analysis for over 2 decades. As it is important for developing professions to document their evolution for later historical analysis, the purpose of this article is to describe the development and evolution of the BACB’s ethics-based documents and codes.
Fidget toys are recommended as “sensory” tools to improve the attention and performance of elementary students with autism. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how fidget toys affected the visual attention and skill acquisition of elementary students with autism during storybook reading. Provision of fidget toys was compared with a no-fidget baseline using two separate, concurrent single-case research designs. The provision of fidget toys resulted in a decrease in visual attention for some, but not all, participants. Story detail acquisition was not differentiated between conditions for any participants. Results suggest that the provision of fidget toys may not negatively affect students’ acquisition of story details, despite potential decreases in students’ attention to storybook reading.

AbstractThe Performance Diagnostic Checklist—Human Services (PDC‐HS) is an assessment used to identify variables contributing to staff performance concerns in human‐service settings. In the current study, we introduce and assess the test validity, interrater reliability, and test–retest reliability of the PDC‐HS (1.1), a revised version of the assessment that included revised instructions, questions, and intervention planning references. We measured the psychometric properties of the revised assessment by analyzing answers obtained from watching video vignettes of simulated interviews between consultants and a supervisor. Twenty‐one participants watched the vignettes and completed the PDC‐HS (1.1) based on the answers provided during the interview. We also included an item analysis to identify questions on which participants made errors and an intervention selection task to assess whether participants selected an appropriate intervention to target the indicated domain. The results support the use of the PDC‐HS (1.1) in human services settings.
