AbstractSustainability is a relevant and pressing theme in which concepts and tools of cultural systems analysis should be applied to a greater extent. The misalignment of the incentive system for producers and consumers raises the issue of sustainable production and consumption of goods and services. A change of paradigm may be needed for shifting defective practices into better informed choices that are consistent with environmental targets and avoid the overexploitation of our planet’s resources. Previous efforts include the 2010 special issue of The Behavior Analyst and the Matrix Project, which advocated a greater involvement of behavior analysts and scientists in sustainability issues. In this conceptual analysis, we continue this effort by analyzing and discussing some of the contingencies underlying: i. manufacturers’ drive for offering environmentally friendly goods; ii. consumers’ bounded choices; and iii. their interaction in the market for achieving sustainable goals. We provide examples of virtuous and defective practices and relate to the Green Shift in Norway. The potential impact of this work consists of informing and influencing policymakers and advocacy organizations as agents of change. Their work is key to shape producers’ and consumers’ preferences for implementing sustainable practices and achieving common environmental goals.

AbstractSelf‐injurious behavior is thought to be the product of interactions between deficits related to a primary disability (e.g., limited communication repertoires and adaptive skills) and learning experiences that reinforce problem behavior (e.g., consoling the child, terminating non‐preferred activities, etc.). For these cases, functional communication training (FCT) may be prescribed to decrease challenging behavior and increase the client's communicative repertoire. However, FCT procedures for individuals with multiple physical impairments may require considerable individualization and modifications. Unfortunately, the existing body of research related to the assessment and treatment of behavior of individuals with motor, visual, or other impairments is relatively limited. The purpose of this report is to demonstrate how practitioners can modify assessment and treatment procedures to decrease challenging behavior and promote independence when working with individuals with multiple impairments. We provide an example of effective skill acquisition and behavior reduction interventions for a young girl, Ava, presenting with multiple disabilities—including visual, hearing, and motor impairments. Consistent with the habilitative aims of applied behavior analysis, the intervention was effective at decreasing Ava's challenging behavior and increasing her independent communication and adaptive behavior.

Different ways of delegating authority to one of the participants in a group of university students were compared. The influence that the delegate's behavior had on the compliance of the rest of the participants was also analyzed -whether or not the delegate was acting in correspondence with the request that he made during the sessions. A puzzle-assembly task was used, and 32 university students were randomly divided into eight groups exposed to different experimental conditions. After training in authority phase and two diagnostic conditions, groups 1 and 1A, were exposed to a condition in which the experimenter explicitly delegated authority; in groups 2 and 2A, authority was delegated by the group; in groups 3 and 3A, authority was self-delegated; while in groups 4 and 4A, authority was not delegated. Groups 1 to 4 were exposed to correspondence in the delegate's actions concerning his request to the group members, while groups 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A were exposed to a non-correspondence condition. Results showed that participants in the explicit delegation groups (by the experimenter or by the group) performed more compliance responses. In contrast, participants in the non-delegation groups performed these behaviors in fewer numbers.
