AbstractThis study investigated the effects of self‐monitoring and public posting on the cycling performance of competitive youth cyclists. We measured three primary dependent variables: performance volume, intensity precision, and performance‐duration deviation. In addition, we evaluated self‐monitoring accuracy and social validity. The participants were three males aged 14–16 years. We used an ABAB design to evaluate an intervention package that consisted primarily of self‐monitoring and public posting. Athletes self‐monitored their performance after training using an online summative Google Form. The coach publicly posted performance‐based rankings on the social media application WhatsApp. Results indicate that the intervention package positively improved all performance measures across all athletes. Social‐validity measures were also favorable.

AbstractMany autistic children display feeding difficulties and consume a limited food variety. These feeding difficulties could be conceptualized as change‐resistant behavior because children often exhibit rigid mealtime routines, avoid novel foods, and only consume foods according to specific types, textures, or under specific mealtime conditions. Currently, behavior‐analytic treatments for pediatric feeding disorders have the most empirical support and many studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of extinction‐based treatments. However, there is less research on alternative treatments for increasing consumption of novel or non‐preferred foods among children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In the current study, we evaluated simultaneous presentation and differential reinforcement to increase consumption of novel, target foods for two participants with ASD and change‐resistant feeding behavior.

Abstract Altruistic behavior is a function of social distance, but why do individuals put others at a particular distance? Social distance is a multidimensional concept, and affection is one of its dimensions. This study evaluated whether there is a negative correlation between social distance and an affection rating. As the affection report allowed the participants to give negative valuations to the people on the list, the study also evaluated whether participants gave negative values to distant people. Colombian University students and young professionals created a social distance list with a variation of the open-field procedure. Then, they gave the people on the list an affection rating between -100 and 100. We found a negative correlation between the positions on the social distance list and the affection ratings. Participants gave affection similarly to how most participants in social discounting research give money, discounting hyperbolically. Furthermore, some participants gave negative affection ratings to distant people on the list. Affection partially explains why individuals put others on a social distance list in different positions.
