AbstractIt is well established that adolescents with autism spectrum disorders often do not engage in physical activity, which may contribute to secondary health concerns (e.g., poor cardiovascular health and diabetes). The purpose of this study was to extend the research on a behavioral intervention package and address previous limitations (i.e., small number of exercises and minimal maintenance). A multiple baseline design across participants was used to determine if there was a functional relationship between the intervention and independence of physical activity, creating workouts, and navigating workouts. The results indicate that participants were able to acquire and maintain skills. When new exercises were presented in generalization, two participants demonstrated higher levels of independence in physical activity and one participant displayed a similar level to baseline. Implications and areas for future research are discussed.

AbstractAdults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience challenges securing employment, which may partially explain overall underemployment or unemployment in this population. One of the first steps to obtaining employment is participating in a job interview. However, social communication deficits may interfere with an individual with ASD's participation in a job interview. The current study evaluated the use of behavioral skills training delivered via remote instruction to teach interview skills to seven adults with ASD. Results showed overall improvement during interviews as well as posttraining tests with a career development expert. These data suggest that an individualized approach to teaching may be an effective strategy to help adults with ASD successfully navigate job interviews.
AbstractRecent data reveal an increase in the likelihood of staff injury for those working in the health care and social assistance industries (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2021). Without information summarizing variables pertaining to staff injury in behavior‐analytic service settings, organizational leaders risk the safety of staff they employ. Despite the social relevance, few studies concerning the types of client‐related staff injuries have been published. The purpose of this survey was to gather data on the cause, type, bodily location of, and treatment required for staff injury by surveying organizations that serve individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Respondents ranked the leading cause of injury as client‐to‐staff interactions, type of injury as bite, location of injury as arm, and the most common treatment required as on‐site first aid. These initial data could assist in the identification of job tasks that may be associated with increased risk of injury, potential ramifications of client‐inflicted injuries on staff performance and organizational outcomes, and how to address injuries in settings within an injury‐prone industry. Implications and future research ideas are also discussed.

AbstractWhen teaching complex skills in higher education settings, different individuals may require different levels of instruction to achieve mastery. The current study replicated and extended Parry‐Cruwys et al. (2022) by evaluating the effects of an online sequential training package on accuracy of APA citations with graduate students in behavior analysis. The intervention consisted of (a) a checklist of APA citation criteria, (b) online modules based on principles of behavioral instruction, and (c) email feedback. All components were delivered remotely through course management software and introduced sequentially such that participants experienced only the intervention necessary to meet the mastery criterion. Of 13 participants, seven required the checklist only, two required the checklist and online modules, and four required the checklist, modules, and feedback. An across participant acquisition analysis revealed additional response patterns that could inform the refinement of future training materials. This evaluation demonstrates an efficient mechanism for assessing skill acquisition at the level of the individual learner in the context of higher education.
